The writing was very dull but expected from an academic book.

  2. Aniko says:

it has a couple of questionable statements, but is generally balanced and concise also, at times, sums up complicated events and their background really well, and that already makes it an indispensible read it s quite disturbing though that there are absolutely no references in the text itself.

  3. Maria says:

Very informative and detailed, sometimes a little dry to get through, but a great help for anyone who wants to understand either North or South Korea, or both I would recommend this also to people who are at the start of doing research about Korean modern politics.

  4. Sarah says:

Actually I ve only read the last chapter in this book because it talks about the 1990s present, which hasn t been discussed in the other Korean history books I ve read This book reads like a textbook though

  5. Ford says:

Easily the best single volume history of modern Korea that I ve read A stand out in a field noteworthy for its limited size and uneven quality.

  6. Oscar says:

Got pretty slow at the end It s not the author s fault, it s history s fault Colonialism and civil war were just muchinteresting topics than economic governance structures to me.

  7. Chris says:

Very in depth overview of the history of the people of the Korean peninsula Great read when I had time.
